POPS 8 way!
Saturday, October 19, 2002, 8 POPS members (that's
Parachutists Over Phorty Society) made two 8 ways in an attempt
to earn their 8 way patch. Pilot Grant Wittenborn (NOT a POPS
member, too young) and Jak Keller (a POPS member who did a tandem
this year) did some great flying, but the first load fell short of
the mark with one man out. The second attempt was successful
but did not count towards the award because it was not slot perfect.
The old farts participating shown above are: the base, starting with
the bald guy and going clockwise: Rick Gardner, Bob Kemper, Scott
Cutting, Rance Sackrider; the chasers, starting with the camera geek
behind the bald guy, Jim Sharp, Bob Lowe, Charlie Dyck, and Bob
Fisher. The shadow (sorry) was photographer Jen Sharp.
In order to set a State Record for a POPS formation, the dive must
be a slot perfect 9 way held for 3 seconds and photographed.
