Happy Birthday, SKYDIVE KANSAS!
10 year anniversary celebration scheduled for Saturday, October 8!
It was a windy Sunday, October 8, 1995, when an unpainted N100SD welcomed the first official load for Skydive Kansas, opening its doors at the Pomona-Lyndon Airport. Alot of memories in the first few months... Debbie and Marc helping paint or performing spoofs from Forest Gump! Shooting the potato gun and fireworks, giving up on the bathroom after a rain shower, Lowell eating an entire extra large shrimp salad sandwich! Mark in the "god" chair... The chipped asphalt runway with the dip in the middle.

In July of 1996, operations moved to the Osage City airport, where facilities were much more accommodating. Soon, N100SD was painted and joined by N5901B. Jumpers from all over Kansas, 40 different states and all over the world have enjoyed the skies over Osage, to the tune of 21,850 jumps total! People from Australia, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, England, Germany, Guam, Holland, India, Mexico, Norway, Puerto Rico, Sweden have made jumps at Skydive Kansas.

Skydive Kansas has also been a leader in the industry, forging higher standards for safety, creating innovative teaching techniques, incorporating state of the art technology, and bringing together owners and operators for sharing ideas.

Stopping only briefly to relish in the past, we look ahead to the future and see unlimited potential for even more fun and sharing the unmatched thrill of a lifetime as we put on a celebration this Saturday, October 8th at Skydive Kansas, Osage City Airport. There will be free hot dogs, live band, chili, old photos & videos, and special dives planned. For those not wanting to make a skydive, we're offering observer rides for $25 where you can go up in a plane load of jumpers and watch them fall out at 10,000 feet, falling at 120 mph or more!

------------------

We could not have asked for better weather for the 10th Birthday Open House Celebration! And many cool jumps: Congratulations to Bobbie & Matt! The first tandems on Saturday were these two lovebirds... While Bobbie was on her tandem, Matt painted "BOBBIE MARRY ME?" in the grass! At 4,000 feet under canopy, tandem instructor Bill Hubbell helped Bobbie read the message! After they landed, Matt got on his knees with the ring and officially proposed! She said yes, of course! Nichole from the Osage County Herald came out to take photos of the event and watched jumpers get out at 10K! (See the front page article this week!) Amy made her jump that we donated to Topeka Boys & Girls Club... and Jackie & Brian made their tandems together! Congrats our pilot Kyle on jump number 2 and his girlfriend Lacey on jump number 1! "Yes, I'm still here!" Also making first jumps Saturday were Tim, Liz, and James, beautiful sun on those jumps! Juan Carlos Santa Maria Chavez the second (the bear) made a jump, but he was a floater and his Cypres didn't fire; he's still MIA! Everyone enjoyed chili, cheese dip, hot dogs all day. Thank you to so many of the cars passing by honking in celebration for us, plus the surprise smoke pass from the unknown low wing!

Sunday the celebration continued, mostly with leftover hot dogs for lunch and leftover chili smell in the plane... Ann, Eric & Bernice got in on the action Sunday, as did Jon for his birthday! Then the Bergeson family made their first jumps. Congratulations Jerod on his first solo jump! Awesome!

We're ready for 10 more years! Thank you Osage City and skydivers from all over!
